“Young Hackney” Youth Centres
London Borough of Hackney
In 2007 LB Hackney commissioned Regenfirst to carry out a feasibility study to look at land and buildings with the potential to create a network of Youth Centres. The completed study proposed a central “Hub” and four neighbourhood “spokes” with sketch plans and budget costs. Using the results of this study Regenfirst then bid on behalf of the Council for “MyPlace” funding (administered by the BIG Lottery) and successfully secured a grant of £5m, which was matched with a further £1.5m from other sources. We were then retained by the Council to carry out an in depth consultation exercise and client manage the procurement of architects and contractors to deliver four large-scale refurbishments and one iconic new building in the heart of Dalston. We also coordinated all of the process and monitoring information required of the BIG lottery.
The Forest Road Youth Centre has since won both the London Region RICS Project of the Year Award 2014 and the RICS Community Benefit Award 2014 and was shortlisted for the RICS National Awards in October.
